Shake Hands Here

This group blog was formed to encourage one another through our goal of reading through the bible.  We are here for encouragement, inspiration, discussion and accountability.  Please be active in participation!  Comment at least weekly, encourage often, and most of all don’t quit!  Life is hard and busy.  There will no doubt be a day where each of us will be behind in our reading plans, however just as the Lord is merciful, so will the rest of the group be!  If you find yourself behind, just jump back in and continue on.

Who are you?  Please comment and share a little bit about yourself, why you are here, and what you’d like to experience as a part of this Read through the Bible group.

Howdy! I am Julie…Mom of four, Grandma to two, homeschooling two and stay at home Mom/wife. This group will hopefully encourage me to stay in God’s word as I struggle through the daily chaos of life with little boys. We are loud, constantly active, and endlessly busy. Currently my “quiet time” is anything but that! Even the closet is filled with distractions to my spiritual health. I try to go to the bathroom and read, but then there’s the inevitable knock on the door, lol. There are days when I CRAVE adult interaction, yet know my first mission is still within the walls of our home. So…I just give each moment purpose and meaning as I possibly can. Please feel free to use whatever means necessary to keep me on track! If I get quiet, it’s usually from just being overwhelmed, so phone calls and friendly faces are appreciated! I commit to pray for each one of you and be involved in your life as much as you would have me be. I do care and am certain God will bless each of our efforts to learn more about Him.

Hey! I’m Ashley: wife of a seminary student; stay-at-home, homeschooling mom of two boys (ages 12 and 9); and neighbor of Julie. I love to read, write, cook (and eat – therefore, I also love Zumba!), knit/crochet, and make jewelry.

I’ve always wanted to read the through the Bible chronologically so I can see how everything fits together. The last time I tried, the plan I was following was so confusing I gave up on it. This plan that Julie is using is much easier for me, so I hope to complete this journey – though it’s likely to take me a little longer than a year. I’m already almost a whole book behind… Still, I won’t let that get me down!

I’m looking forward to “meeting” the rest of you and joining you on this journey!

My first neighborhood friend! I’m so blessed to know you and your family, Ashley 🙂

Hello Julie. You sound strangely similar to my bestest friend! Heehee….ok, here’s me for those who don’t know me. I’m Jennifer, mom to 5 girls, and Grandma to 3 precious boys. I am homeschooling three of the girls and dilligently making every effort to keep everyone happy and physically, spiritually, and emotionally stabile while managing our home, without much help from anyone (yes, I’m complaining….call me on it if you want to) except my husband, who helps me when he can. Now, to be perfectly honest about myself, I spent the better part of 10 straight years reading my Bible everyday without fail and journaling my life in letters to God. For the past 3 1/2 years I’ve been in a very dry desert where it seems God is very quiet. I know in reality He’s probably just waiting on me to make a move but I just want Him to do it. So here I am. Making yet another attempt at getting “me” back. Maybe this was more than you really wanted to know about me, but now you know.

My first BFF! Wow have we shared so much in life already, huh?! It’s ok to complain here. Life is hard and friends make it so much better. We will all share bandaids and Blue Bell together 🙂 Love you!

    Hi, everyone!
I’m Niki Bell, wife to Michael and stay at home mom to Cason (6) and Colton (2). So far, it looks like I’m the only one NOT doing homeschool. I have NO patience and really want them to actually learn. :o) I love my role in the home, it’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a young girl. There are definately days it’s overwhelming and I just want to run away, but I know this is where God wants me for now. I LOVE to cook and watching Food Network is one of my favorite pastimes. I rarely get to b/c it’s always on cartoons, but thank goodness for the dvr! I love the Lord so much and am so thankful for how He’s blessed my life. I am also thankful to have a Godly heritage on both sides of my family and on my husband’s side, as well. I always read my Bible but have yet to read through all the way. I have found since I’ve started this venture with you all, He is speaking deep into my heart and showing me things I never realized. And I’m also finding that the more I read, the more I want to read. It has been great. I will confess, I’m struggling with Leviticus but I’ll save that for the Leviticus discussions. I’m so glad we can stay together as a group b/c I think it will help us all to stay committed. I believe that God is going to bless each one of us as we make an effort to keep His Word a priority. I am always saying, “Honor God and He will honor you!” Can’t wait to see what comes out of this!

Niki – We all homeschool, including you! There’s just a few of us who decided to give up sanity and do it for longer periods of time each day 😉 I’m so glad you’re in this group! Keep heading toward the end of Leviticus….you will make it!

    Hello everyone!
I am Jeremy Hudson, husband to Kari Hudson and father to three children; Julia, Wesley, and “Peanut” who should make his/her grand entrance some time in early July! It is through Kari that I met and have come to know and love Julie and her gang. I am a Registered Nurse for Baylor Dallas ER and part time stay at home dad/ college student. I am blessed to have been called to teach in our church on Sundays for an amazing group of young and older adults during the Sunday School hour. I love reading, teaching, music, and spending time with my family.

Because I know that God has called me and my family to minister in a deeper, more Biblically sound way in this life, I have made it my goal to read more of God’s word this year than ever before. Reading the Bible through chronologically with you all this year is my “plan of attack!” Kari is also doing this and together, we have begun to make it a priority to read the Bible to both our children every night. We have always read them Bible stories before but not every day. Now we are trying to change that. I am so excited to be a part of this group and have thus far, enjoyed reading all the daily comments and posts at our previous “venue.” You all encourage me and I look forward to what this year has to offer in and through this group!

Jeremy — I LOVE that you are reading to your kids at night! This is something we have also done with the boys. Kenneth reads to them every night before bed, even now, and they just love it. I’m sure it will be a memory they will want to continue for their own children. Glad you are with us on this bible reading journey!

  8. #13 by Angela on February 5, 2012 - 9:37 pm

My name is Angela George. I am married to Mike George and, have two children Brandon and Jessica. I am also blessed to have two beautiful grand-daughters who were born nine months apart and, are 15 months and 6 months old. They have blessed my life with much joy and laughter. I love to garden, sew, make jewelry, and spend time with family.
Since I have been attending BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) in September, I have faced many trials and temptations. I have wanted to throw in the towel at times. But, when I realized that the whole concept behind BSF is that we are created for commitment, I determined to dig my heels in for the long haul of the study. In addition, I am starting another Bible study with Beth Moore on the book of James. As Jeremy says, it is my “plan of attack!”.
I have never read the the Bible in chronological order, nor have I read it in it’s entirety. I will definitely need prayers to accomplish this goal in my life.

Hi Angela! Welcome to the group 🙂 Are you already friends with someone here, or did you find us on the web? I’d love to know more about BSF too! In my experience, it is when we devote more of ourself to God that satan begins to attack. The trials and temptations you have experienced since attending BSF may be just that, however, we are all here to encourage one another and stand with you during hard times! Blessings to you and we are so glad you’re here!

Hi, I am a facebook friend and distant relative of Ashley Todd. I haven’t ever met her in person but, I hope to do so. And, yes, the trials and temptations are due to my devoting more of myself to the Lord. The attacks started almost immediately after I started BSF. I am thankful that I recognize them for what they are.
BSF was started over 50 years ago by Weatherall Johnson, who was a missionary to China. In 1942 she was imprisoned to a prison camp during the Japanese invasion. BSF is beautiful because all Christian denominations come together to study the Bible; no man-made religion can be pushed to participants.
BSF is located in 38 nations acrosss 6 continents. And, there are classes available during the day and at night. There are classes for men, women, and children. They even start teaching the little ones at a very young age, I think around 2 yrs old, about the Word of God and how to take care of their Bibles. The Bible studies run from September to May and take one book of the Bible verse by verse.

    Hi…I’m Kari…and I’ve fallen off the bandwagon…I WILL catch up, though! 🙂

  11. #17 by Kari on February 10, 2012 - 8:42 pm

Ok…really, I’m Kari and I am a mom to 2 children, wife to Jeremy (who is a commenter above), and a 2nd grade teacher. I don’t really have much else to say about myself…so, I need to get busy reading.

Hi Kari 🙂 Your bio is not complete without words like “awesome”, “talented”, “lovely”, and “blessed”! You are all those and more!
